Terri’s Bio:

I grew up with an artistic mom who encouraged me from a young age. I had a fabulous high school art teacher who taught Drawing 1 & 2. She laid a great foundation. I didn’t start painting until I moved to Indonesia with my husband and 2 children. I stumbled upon an art school, but the instructor wouldn’t teach me watercolors! I began collecting watercolor supplies but didn’t really know how to use them. Several years later I heard about Mary Forester, an Austrian watercolor artist in my town who had an open studio art group. I asked to join and that was the beginning of my painting life. After Indonesia, my husband and I moved to the UK where I attended a few art workshops, including one by Jean Haines. I had a painting accepted into our local art museum’s centennial exhibition, which was exciting. We moved to Colorado Springs in 2014 and I enjoy the challenge of painting the local landscape. In 2019 I applied to the Pikes Peak Library system for a solo show and was given two exhibition spaces that year. I was represented at Meraki Springs in OCC from 2022-2024. I’ve stepped back from that for the time being to develop a new body of work.

Terri’s favorite things to paint:

I started with landscapes so I could record the places I’ve lived and visited over the years. That is still a favorite theme. Lately I have enjoyed doing a couple of paintings of my grandkids. I also enjoy florals.

Terri’s favorite or most admired artists:

Angela Fehr (Canada), Hazel Soan (UK), Jean Haines (UK), Monet, Van Gogh and many others!

Terri’s goals for the next year:

I heard an art instructor say that to grow as an artist you have to go through miles and miles of watercolor paper. One of my goals is to use up the stack of paper I have as I continue to experiment and play with watercolors.

Terri’s Watercolor Tip or Trick

I don’t always use masking fluid, but when I do I always coat the bristles of my (old, cheap) brush with dishwashing soap. It helps so much when cleaning the brush afterwards!
