Prospectus, Label & Registration Form

WHERE: Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center

WHEN: May 1st through May 30th, 2024

INTAKE: Wednesday, May 1st, 9:30 am – 2:30 pm
Art must be hand-delivered to GOG Visitor Center, 1805 N 30th St., Colorado Springs 80904

OPENING RECEPTION (Meet the Artists): Saturday, May 25th, 11:00 am to 2:00 pm

PICK-UP: Thursday, May 30th. Pick up at GOG Visitor Center 9:30 am – 2:00 pm

ELIGIBILITY:

  • Open to any PPWS member in good standing whose dues are current.
  • Each member may enter one (1) painting. No bin work.
  • NOTE Size Limit: Maximum size 320 sq. in. including frame. This is a small venue, so enter a smaller piece if you can, so there’s space for more members.
  • Theme: “Open” theme, but consider that subjects relating to Garden of the Gods would have special sales appeal.
Media: Paintings must be predominantly watermedia on watercolor paper, rice paper, claybord, Yupo, illustration board, canvas, or silk. Watermedia includes watercolor, casein, gouache, and acrylic. Collage or pen/ink is allowed as long as the painting is predominantly watermedia. No water-soluble oils.
Art should remain on display until the end of the show if possible.
  • No restrictions on when the painting was done, or whether it’s been in other shows.
  • Painting should be finished as appropriate to its surface and finish: if matted, it should be framed.
  • Glass is permitted for framing.
  • If waxed or varnished, the piece can be framed without a mat or glazing. If on deep canvas or deep cradle board and sealed, it would not require a frame.
  • Paintings must be professionally presented and ready for hanging, with hardware and wire in place. No saw tooth hangers. No chipped/scratched/damaged frames.
  • Paintings must be original and the sole work of the artist. No art created in collaboration with other artists or in classes/workshops. No prints, digital or computer-generated art.
  • This is a non-juried show, but the subject matter must be in good taste and appropriate for the general public. GOG staff and show chair reserve the right to decline art deemed inappropriate.

SALES & COMMISSION: The GOG Visitor Center staff will handle all sales, and will produce wall tags for our pieces that include prices and QR codes. GOG policy is to request that artists donate 30% of sales to GOG.

ENTRY FEE: The entry fee is $10 for one (1) painting, to be paid in cash or by check (payable to
PPWS), when you deliver the painting to GOG Visitor Center on intake day.

MARKETING: Garden of the Gods Visitor Center will mention the show in their bimonthly newsletter and on a “landing” page on their website. PPWS will promote the show on its website and Facebook page. A flyer will be sent by email to PPWS members; you are encouraged to post it on your social media pages as well.

OTHER INFORMATION: Members who enter the show are asked to attend the opening reception, and bring some type of finger food for guests.

When preparing your painting for delivery/intake, please fill out the label below, detach it, and tape the label to the wire on the back of your painting.
