Little did local photographer Mike Pach know his life was about to change on January 12, 2015. While making lunch, he noticed the frost-covered tree on the hill behind his house and decided to take a photo of it. What ensued was a personal challenge to start a blog featuring one image a day for 365 days of this one tree.
Mike Pach was our guest speaker last night. My first thought was, why was a photographer speaking to a watercolor club? Boy, was I wrong!
Mike shared his story of photographing a hackberry tree for 365 days and how this one simple goal helped him with his struggles with depression and opened up his creativity.
Mike titled his project: Same Tree Different Day

Mike was a witty speaker that kept us all entertained. He said many people go through life never noticing the things around them, like a tree! By slowing down and connecting with nature and his subject matter, things shifted for him.
Mike shared the lessons he learned about creativity and mindfulness, along with the mental health benefits his year-long project provided.
Now, Mike’s Tree!
Let me tell you, it was super hard to pick just one image from each month! They were all magical! And, anyone living in Colorado knows how the weather can change from day to day or even hour to hour. Mike’s photos capture these changes with beautiful sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, lightning, hail, cloudy days, and incredible blue skies. There are also photos of deer, dogs, a squirrel named Roger, and people, all enjoying Mike’s tree.
