Meet Theresa Nipper!
Theresa is one of PPWS’ Featured Artists for January 2024!
Theresa is a fairly new member, joining PPWS in June of 2023.
Theresa’s Bio:
I have been pursuing art in multiple mediums since grade school with the primary mediums being oil, acrylic or watercolors. I have a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in Interior Design but small group art classes in watercolors and oils over the years have always been inspiring. Art history studies and visiting many art museums have also been fun and educational. However, I have found the best way to learn an art medium is by practicing it consistently.
The watercolor medium is demanding, surprising, and can be magical. It is a medium in which the artist usually needs a plan and a knowledge of the medium’s basic techniques. It also requires an artist’s ability to see beyond the basic picture into the light, color, and movement of the subject matter. Passion and creativity are what we chase in the practice of an art form. “Seeing like an artist” means connecting the imagination with a high sort of seeing. Art grounds us and makes us see and wonder at things we otherwise could not see. Art is a mental engagement and emotional energy or “passion” for life. Inspiration begins in sudden moments of fascination with something perceived. An example of this would be seeing the “Golden Hour” light up on top of a mountain. It’s a sense of wonder and awe at God’s creation.

Theresa’s favorite things to paint: My favorite things to paint are landscapes or flowers.
She has worked a little in acrylic but prefers watercolors. Back in the 70’s she painted exclusively in oil.
Favorite Artists: Andrew Wyeth, Michelangelo (blessed to see his La Pieta), Vincent Van Gough. I love to go to art museums and galleries of all sizes.
Theresa’s goals for the next year:
Her goals for next year are to improve her work by lots of practice, studying more art books and videos from the PPWS library, maybe take a couple of classes, and to be able to display my work more often. I am excited about the show the PPWS will have at Garden of the Gods in May 2024.
