Susan’s Bio:
I’ve been painting exclusively in watercolor for over 45 years. Although my BA degree in graphic design included some fine arts courses, I’m primarily a self-taught painter. Throughout my career in graphic design, and also during my “second act” career in mental health counseling, I always continued to paint and exhibit my artwork. Since retiring in 2020, I’ve been able to devote all my energy and time more deeply to painting. I’ve spent most of my life in Colorado, and now live in the mountains in Florissant, Colorado.

Susan’s favorite things to paint: I have two favorite things to paint: One is close-ups of flower blossoms – they’re always fun to paint, and the bright colors and sensual shapes appeal to me. But the subject that has the most special meaning to me, and that also provides a technical challenge, are my pieces depicting Native American Powwow dancers.
I’ve only briefly tried working in other mediums (acrylic, oil, pastel) but always return to traditional watercolor.
Susan’s goals for the next year:
To keep working to master transparent watercolor techniques; to find more opportunities to exhibit locally and regionally in good quality art venues

My friend and art mentor, Mark Gould, gave me some advice back in the 80s that still helps me stay bold and confident in my work:
