Bob’s Bio:

I am a Colorado-based artist with Nebraskan roots. Using watercolor & ink, I create colorful illustrations that speak to the extraordinary moments we encounter in everyday life. From wildlife and landscapes to hurried people and city streets, my work captures the heart of the human experience. “I want people to say, ‘Oh, I know him!’ or ‘Oh, I’ve been there!’ Even if they don’t, I still want them to smile when they see it.”  Choosing watercolor as my medium meant realizing I didn’t need to “stay in the lines” to create something remarkable — a lesson I embrace in life and art. I am thankful to my wife and family, for their love and support, and for being my biggest fans.

Bob’s favorite things to paint:

So far, I have not settled on a favorite subject, I am still finding my style. For the most part, I have been painting items that challenge me to improve or explore areas I am not comfortable with.  I have done landscapes, portraits, Unban Sketching, and observation painting.

I have also dabbled in ink, mechanical drawing and practice pencil sketching of the human form.

Bob’s favorite or most admired artists:

Vincent van Gogh, Norman Rockwell, Monet’s landscapes/urban paintings and Frank Frazetta.

Bob’s goals for the next year:

I would like to cement the foundation of my art, take some formal training, participate in a few shows, and explore illustration.

Bob’s Watercolor Tip:

I take pictures of events and places or events that intrigue me, then when I settle on one, I do a blue pencil grid sketch drawings of my subject. Light blue pencils are difficult for copiers to image and do not easily show if not erased completely when duplicates are made. After that it is a matter of applying paint.
