Meet Mary Villier!
Mary is one of PPWS’ Featured Artists for January 2024!
Mary is a fairly new member, joining PPWS in April of 2023.
Mary’s Bio:
I have always enjoyed art and decided when I was 55 years old to go back and get my Fine Arts degree at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte. I remember distinctly the first day of class and as I looked around and saw students half my age, I wondered “What in the heck am I doing here?” However, I felt like the challenge would be worth it, so I forged ahead. I’m very glad I did. You are never too old to learn a new skill or information.
Mary’s Awards:
I have never really competed for awards; however, my senior year, I was asked permission to publish one of my Acrylic Abstract paintings in the university publication. Overall, I have spent many years painting gifts for my family and friends. Occasionally, I have been asked to commission a work of art for a customer.
Mary’s favorite things to paint:
I really enjoy painting portraits, because I like the challenge of giving an accurate representation of the person I am painting. It is especially exciting when I know I have captured their personality and likeness.
What other mediums do you work in?
You name it, I’ve done it! In college, I created collage pieces, oils, acrylics, sculpture, chalks and of course watercolor paintings. Recently, I have dabbled with pour paintings and resin. I love how having a wide variety of mediums to work with is challenging, and yet fulfilling because you can get inspiration from so many different types of art.
Favorite Artists:
Mary Cassatt – I love seeing her focus on children. She always brings you into the painting.
Mary’s goals for the next year:
At 82, I am planning on continuing to paint and explore many new ways to create beautiful pieces. I may also delve more into the inks and all the way those can be coupled with watercolor.

Mary’s Social Media:
I do not have a website or social media post with my artwork displayed. I have never set up any way to sell my artwork; therefore, you will just have to visit my paintings in person!
