Kathy’s Bio:
Kathy is Kentucky born and bred but eventually migrated with her family to Colorado. She is the proud mother of son Matthew and daughter Kristi and has 5 grandchildren between them. She concluded her varied careers in “customer service” at the US Olympic Training Center, where for 12 years she worked in Operations with the Elite Athletes as they trained for Gold! Kathy has also been a professional actor most of her adult life. She enjoys coaching serious actors and until recently, produced original work written by local playwrights for Craft Production Resource. Kathy was introduced to 2D painting around 1998 while working on her BA in Fine Arts History at UCCS (on the “50 year plan”) and graduated 2001. Her first watercolor class was at Bemis in 2006 and she has kept Cheap Joe’s and Menninger’s in business ever since!
Kathy’s Awards:
Honorable Mention in the “Emerging New Artist” juried show at Fare Bella Gallery
Kathy’s favorite things to paint:
Portraits of people and animals, because they have a soul, and still life, because I can choose how, when, where, and what to paint. Kathy has also painted in acrylics in college and will use it in plein air.
Kathy’s favorite or most admired artists:
The energy and palette of Van Gogh, the subjects and simplicity of Latrec, and the atmospheres of JW Turner
Kathy’s goals for the next year:
To continue taking classes, to keep painting and socializing with my painting group, and to have a painting accepted into at least one accredited juried show on my journey towards becoming a Signature Member.
FAVORITE ARTSY QUOTE
“Don’t paint the cow, paint the moo!”
Kathy’s watercolor Tip or Trick:
Single pigment watercolor paints make cleaner blends. Most importantly, “Be yourself, no one can do it (your art) better than you”.
