Meet Heidi Roberts!

Heidi is one of PPWS’ Featured Artists for March 2024!

Heidi has been a member of PPWS since 2018.

Heidi’s Bio:

I have loved ‘artsey things’ since I was a young child. However, I got my kick-start with watercolor in the early 2000’s when we lived in a rural town in the charming, picturesque Cotswolds in England (we lived in the UK 38 years, until 2014). The national Society for All Artists (SAA) promoted tutorials, supplies and demonstrators which encouraged me and my regional art group to ‘learn adventurously.’ While I have had no formal training, much of my ‘how-tos’ as well as countless rejects have created an ongoing learning curve with my mantra that ‘there are NO absolute rules with watercolor’ and ‘it’s only paper, so don’t be afraid to screw-up’! My UK reputation for greeting cards created from painting scans has also caught on here.

Heidi’s Awards:

No awards as such, however, I had a painting published in the SAA Magazine, and have sold dozens of paintings in UK  shows and two local Colorado shows. I have also participated in numerous in-person and residential watercolor workshops in the UK, and also in Colorado.

My biggest reward however is blessing people who now own and enjoy my paintings. Our Mayor of Chippenham (UK) bought my ‘Yelde Hall’ painting to put in the regional museum. (see image below)

Heidi’s favorite thing to paint?
While in England, it was the amazing churches, ‘village / town-scapes’, golf courses and landscapes of the amazing countryside. I did several commissioned cottages. Here in Colorado, of course, it is the scenery!

What other mediums do you work in?
I stick with watercolors primarily and occasionally experiment with added medium(s).

Heidi’s favorite or most admired artist:

Thomas Kinkade!

Heidi’s goals for the next year:

To paint more consistently, especially with the forthcoming two member shows – also, ideally, secure two commissioned paintings in 2024!

Heidi’s Watercolor Tip or Trick:
I have used only Arches paper for decades – while is it quite expensive (but worth every penny!) I keep my (dozens of) rejects, turn the paper over on the reverse and cut it in to 5 x 7 card to hand-paint random ‘posies’ which people LOVE to receive.
