Ciara’s Bio:
My name is Ciara, but I sign and sell my art with Clarity Squiggles. I graduated from Macalester College in Saint Paul, MN in 2021 with a biology and applied math/statistics degree. I also studied education. Since then, I have been working in a data field. I have goals to sell my art and teach art classes.

Ciara’s favorite things to paint:
I mostly paint abstract colors and patterns, but I am currently practicing painting landscapes (including houses) and my pets.
I use watercolor pencils, colored pencils, alcohol inks & markers on stone and paper. I also enjoy mixed media, paper engineering, paper-cutting and book-binding to create journals, altered books and cards.
I work in many mediums. I have enjoyed working with pastels, acrylic, and collage in addition to watercolor. I even painted a mural in my house.

Ciara’s favorite or most admired artists:
The artists I admire the most include Vincent van Gogh, as I relate to the stories of him sneaking into people’s houses to continue working on his paintings because they didn’t feel done. I also admire my dad for giving me a strong foundation in almost every art medium possible. Leonardo da Vinci is another figure I deeply respect, as he was both a scientist and an artist, much like myself. His ability to blend both disciplines reminds me that it’s possible to pursue both passions, and I sometimes hope that I knew him in a previous life. I grew up learning clay from Marie E.V.B. Gibbons in Denver on First Friday. https://hyperallergic.com/537521/marie-evb-gibbons-a-denver-artist-who-shaped-a-generation-of-students/
Ciara’s goals for the next year:
Make more art. Set and meet reasonable deadlines for my art.

FAVORITE ARTSY QUOTE
“Science seeks to find truth in the natural world. Art seeks to find truth in the emotional world.”

Ciara’s Watercolor Tip:
I find that with watercolor specifically, it matters what paper you have. It needs to be watercolor paper to avoid shredding and/or repelling water.
