Have you tried painting with a limited Palette?

As an en plein air painter, I am always looking to lighten my load of materials when going out into the field to paint. I also enjoy traveling to destination workshops, so a limited palette lightens my load!

One of my favorite workshops was with Lian Quan Zhen which took place in Mexico. Lian is an amazing painter and requires minimal supplies. His list of paints to bring to the workshop included the primary colors of Antwerp Blue, Hansa Yellow and Pyrrol Red. I was very happy to bring only three tubes of paint in my luggage.

I painted this Victor Mine using just these three colors.

Check out Lian’s website to see his amazing watercolor paintings using only the three primary colors. www.lianspainting.com.
