Johanna’s Bio:

Drawing and painting go back to my early childhood in New York. My first taste of recognition came in a high school exhibit having won five ribbons in different mediums. Painting was put aside during my working years until moving to Colorado 1999 and taking introduction to watercolor classes with Lorraine Danzo. It was indispensable to learning the techniques and challenges of watercolor.

Johanna’s Awards:

In 2005, I became an Associate Member of the Pikes Peak Watercolor Society, which gave me my first opportunity to enter its local juried, themed exhibition and the honor of being included on the show poster. I then entered and was accepted into numerous juried exhibitions which garnered a few awards and sales. Signature Membership was attained in both the Pikes Peak Watercolor Society and the Colorado Watercolor Society.

Watercolor has always attracted me because of its translucency.  Trying to incorporate what I have learned in technique, my favorite of which was working wet-in-wet, and the use of color, my painting style came from within.  Working from my own photographs, I always tried to capture the colors and textures unique to the subject.  I have primarily painted flowers because of my love of them and enjoyed creating still life paintings.

Johanna’s favorite things to paint:
Florals and still life.

Johanna has tried other mediums but prefers watercolors.

Johanna’s favorite or most admired artists:
Realists

Johanna’s goals for the next year:
Pick up my brushes again since I have not painted in a few years.
