Meet Marie Schroeder!
Marie is one of PPWS’ Featured Artists for April 2026!
Marie became a member of PPWS in 2025 and is an Associate Member. She enjoys taking part in our social events and art demonstrations.
Marie’s Bio:
I immigrated from Germany in 1967 and became a citizen in the early 70’s while living in Nevada. We moved to the San Luis Valley in 1990, and I decided to finish my degree once our children left the nest. Initially, I majored in art at Adams State. I changed courses and obtained a master’s in social work at Colorado State University working for several years with the Department of Health and Social Services and Foster care agencies in Colorado Springs. My job was demanding, and I had little time to paint. My husband and I are retired now, and I began painting again about 7 years ago and enjoy painting every day.

Marie’s Awards:
Marie has yet to receive any awards for her art, but she did receive several academic awards so long ago.

Marie’s favorite things to paint:l
I enjoy painting landscapes, flowers, and am focusing lately on animals (moose, bears, foxes, and deer). I participated in a plein air group last summer and loved it.
Marie has tried pastels when taking a class at Bemis, but now only works with acrylics and watercolors or pencil drawing.

NAME’s favorite or most admired artists:
Monet is definitely my favorite, and Henri Matisse because of his color choices and freedom of expression
Marie’s goals for the next year:
To continue to taking classes once in a while and participate in plein air events this summer.

FAVORITE ARTSY QUOTE
“Walk away and give it a “rest.”
– Henri Matisse
“Creativity takes courage.”

Marie’s Tip or Trick:
Let it flow. Lots of water. Let the colors do the work.
